This really is an excellent opportunity to come and see if Denmark’s Tine Rasmussen can once again lift the Women’s Singles crown, and stop China making a clean sweep as they did in 2009. Of course, English fans are keen to see if Nathan Robertson or Anthony Clark can once again rise to the challenge and earn a spot on the podium in the Men’s or Mixed Doubles events, showcasing the talent that won them their first Super Series last season, and Nathan and Gail Emms the Mixed Doubles title in 2005. Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wai took his first title in Birmingham last year, and will be looking to defend against greats such as Olympic Champion Lin Dan in 2011.
The Danish fans will be eagerly watching to see if their mighty Men’s Doubles pairs can repeat the spectacular 90 minute final of 2010, which accounted for the second of their gold medal positions. China once again triumphed in the Women’s Doubles, and will be keen to continue that success and make it the 11th title since 2000 – a truly remarkable feat.
With crucial world ranking points on offer, and playing an important part in the qualification process for the 2011 Yonex BWF World Badminton Championships, this will be a year to remember…and be a part of.
