The IWBF World Wheelchair Basketball Championships takes place at The NIA between Wednesday 7 – Saturday 17 July. The biggest wheelchair basketball event sees 22 teams from 16 countries across the world compete for the title of best team in the world.
Tickets for the Championships are available online at theticketfactory.com or by calling The Ticket Factory on 0844 338 8000. Tickets are priced £3 adult and £2 concessions; tickets for the finals day only are priced £5 adult and £3 concessions.
Beijing Gold and Silver Olympic medallists USA and Germany are drawn together in the women’s event, whilst Great Britain takes on familiar opponents in The Netherlands and Australia in Pool B.
In the Men’s pools Great Britain will come up against the USA and European Champions Italy, whilst in Pool B newcomers Algeria will come up against Paralympic Gold and Silver medallists Australia and Canada.
IWBF President, Maureen Orchard said after the draw, "We are hoping that the World Championships will be a great tournament and that the teams will have an unforgettable time."
Richard Callicott, Chairman of the Championship Organising Committee, said “There are 22 teams attending and it gives the chance for Birmingham to put the city on the Sporting map, it also allows them a chance to offer Paralympic squads the chance to see what is on offer for them to use prior to 2012. I hope the Championship will be a marker for others in years to come and we can put on the best ever World Championships at The NIA – one that will be memorable for all."
